The family of Czech-Brazilian scientist Otto Gottlieb (1920-2011) fled Europe before World War II, settling in Rio de Janeiro in 1939. After working in his father’s essential oils business for 10 years, Otto pursued an academic career, revolutionizing plant chemistry in Brazil with research in the Amazon.
Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1999, Otto devoted his life to preserving Brazil's botanical heritage. The book, authored by Eduardo Shor, was a limited edition for the family.
